Marina Briones is an alumna of SSU, receiving her B.A. in Psychology in 2016. Soon after graduating from SSU, Marina headed out to Loyola University Chicago where she earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education just this past May 2018. While at Loyola, Marina worked for two years as an academic coach where she honed her skills in organization, time management, and communication through workshops, one on one contact and teaching classes. While at LUC, she also simultaneously worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago as an Advisor for Campus Programming and the Student Activities Board, where she helped to create and implement programs for over 30,000 students, most of which were commuters. As a NODA (National Orientation Directors Association) graduate intern at the University at Buffalo, she worked hard to refine her skills of working in a fast paced environment and making sure her work was efficient and high quality. Lastly, through her experience as a professional staff member in the Alternative Breaks Immersion program at LUC she actively applied skills in logistical planning and organization as she made travel arrangements for a week long immersion trip out of state. Through all of these experiences she actively applied student development and leadership theories to deepen the holistic experience of those I worked with.
As an undergraduate student at Sonoma State, some Marina’s favorite memories were created through her time as a CSA, an alternative break leader, a women of color collective member and so much more. Marina is very much looking forward to being back at SSU and cannot wait to interact with students, staff, and faculty now with a professional lens. She looks forward to the work she will be doing in Student Involvment which consists of community building, cultivating intentional programming, and of course, collaborating with others!
Fun Facts about Marina: She absolutely loves the beach, hiking and music! Marina’s my goal every year is to listen to ten new songs a day. She typically goes over that goal. She also really enjoys talking to, and getting to know others, so if you ever need someone to talk to, she’s your gal!
